What a 10x10 Booth Taught Us About Event Engagement

This perspective is based on MVS’s live booth activation at Expo! Expo!, originally featured in Exhibit City News. Read the original article HERE.

We Usually Build for Entire Expo Floors

So we asked a simple question:

What happens when we shrink everything down to a 10x10 booth?

At Expo! Expo!, our team decided to test it.

Not as a theoretical exercise—but as a real-world experiment.

If we believe in the power of experience-driven production, we should be able to apply that same thinking at the smallest scale.

The Hypothesis

Most booths follow a familiar formula:

  • Table
  • Backdrop
  • Maybe a monitor

Clean. Simple. Safe.

But also easy to walk past.

We wanted to test a different idea:

Would a more immersive, interactive booth actually drive better engagement in a small footprint?

What We Built

We didn’t make the booth bigger.

We made it more intentional.

The design centered around a four-sided LED column, creating visibility from multiple angles and pulling attention from across the floor.

Around it, we layered:

  • A digital “Spin to Win” prize wheel to create interaction
  • Live demos of our digital signage platform (MVS Marquee)
  • Clean, minimal design elements to avoid visual clutter

The goal wasn’t to show everything we do.

It was to create a reason to stop.

What Happened

As the show opened, the answer became clear quickly.

People didn’t just notice the booth.

They moved toward it.

They engaged.
They interacted.
They stayed longer.

At times, attendees were lining up, drawn in by the LED column and the prize wheel experience.

By the end of the show, we had generated nearly 200 new contacts, including several actively looking for a new AV partner.

What Actually Worked, And Why

This wasn’t about adding more technology.

It was about using it differently.

1. Movement Beats Static

The LED column wasn’t just a screen—it created motion and energy in a sea of static booths.

2. Interaction Beats Information

The prize wheel wasn’t just a giveaway—it created a moment of participation.

3. Experience Beats Explanation

Attendees didn’t need to be told what we do.
They experienced it.

What This Means for Exhibitors

The takeaway isn’t: Add more tech.

It’s: Be more intentional with how you use it

You don’t need a bigger booth to stand out.

You need:

  • A clear reason for people to stop
  • A simple way for them to engage
  • An experience that reflects what you actually offer

A Better Question to Ask

Instead of asking: “How much can we fit into this space?”

Ask: “What will make someone stop, engage, and remember us?”

That’s where the real ROI comes from.

The Bottom Line

A 10x10 booth isn’t a limitation.

It’s a filter.

It forces clarity.
It forces intention.
And when done right, it can outperform expectations.
